Peel THE Potato Escape Guide: The Final Route to a Completed Escape
The Vault is the only exit in Peel THE Potato. See the final route — the full peel reveals the key, then unlock the Vault and run out — and how finished escapes are timed.
The Vault is the only exit in Peel THE Potato. There is no separate escape door, no post-Vault area and no second route to hunt for — once your run reaches the endgame, the whole escape comes down to four things: finish peeling the potato mountain so the hidden key appears, pick the key up, unlock the Vault with it, and run straight out. The official game description orders it exactly that way, from "Peel potatoes to find the hidden Key" to "Unlock the Vault and escape", and adds one more line that matters for this page: "Beat your fastest escape time". Completed escapes are timed runs, and that timing is the game's built-in proof that walking out through the Vault finishes the game.
What must already be done before the final escape
Two conditions gate the ending:
- The mountain is completely peeled. One recorded run found the key after the pile was fully cleared; another found it among the final potatoes. The exact reveal threshold is unconfirmed. In one recorded full playthrough, the player stripped the entire pile, saw no key anywhere, and only when the peeled mountain began to shake and rumble did the key appear. So if your pile is bare and the key is missing, the peel is not the problem — the reveal just hasn't happened yet.
- You have the key and know where the Vault is. The game's opening makes the Vault's role unambiguous: it is the one place a prisoner can leave the farm, and the single key hidden in the potato pile is the only thing that opens it. Exactly where the Vault sits and how its unlock works are covered step by step in the Vault guide — this page picks up with that stage done.
If you are still on earlier stages, the Potato Mountain guide covers the dig-and-peel stage and the hidden key guide covers the search itself.
The final route to the exit
From a fully peeled mountain, the ending plays out like this:
- Wait out the shake. Don't panic when the last potato comes off and no key is visible. The full playthrough shows the same beat: bare pile first, then the peeled mountain shakes and rumbles, and the key appears right after. The material available doesn't pin the key to one fixed spot in the pile — that is one observed ending, not proof that every run requires a completely empty pile.
- Grab the key the moment it shows. In the recorded run the player spotted it immediately ("here it is") and picked it up on the spot. There is nothing else to collect and no detour to make — the key is the last item your run needs.
- Take the key to the Vault and unlock it. This is the final interaction of the game. In the full playthrough, nothing happens between key in hand and the Vault — no prompt chains, no side objectives, no other area on the way.
- Run straight out. Walk through the unlocked Vault and leave the farm. In that run, the escape ended immediately after the player went out through the Vault — no further interaction, area or step appeared between the key pickup and the finish. The reliable-completion takeaway is that there is no trick to miss: every documented beat of the ending happens at the Vault itself.
This page deliberately skips the speed-optimal version of the route — if finishing reliably is no longer the problem, the Speedrun guide is the one that rebuilds it for time.
How you know the escape counted
This is the part of the ending where it's worth being precise about what the game tells you.
What is confirmed: escapes are timed, recorded events. The official description's "Beat your fastest escape time" feature only works if walking out through the Vault registers a finished run, so completing the sequence above is what the game tracks as your escape.
What is not pinned down: the exact on-screen confirmation — the message, results screen, badge or cutscene, if any, that appears when you exit. No available footage or description shows that moment's UI clearly, and the music that closes playthrough videos should not be read as an in-game ending cue; that can just as easily be the creator's outro. Practically, the check is positional: mountain fully peeled, key picked up, out through the unlocked Vault — that is the game's only escape sequence, and it's the one its timer records.
After the escape
What the game shows the instant you leave — whether the farm resets or a new run begins automatically — isn't covered by the material behind this guide. The confirmed forward path is the official one: your escape time exists to be beaten. The same route, run again faster, is the natural next step — and for players who want to chase the clock seriously, start with the fastest escape time page and then move on to the Speedrun guide.
